Dear Families,

Welcome to Term 2 here at the Vine Baptist Kids Church Program! It feels like only yesterday it was January. There’s been such a flurry of activity around the place.

So what’s been happening in Kids Church so far this year you might be asking?

Well, amongst all of this change we have been really blessed with the growing we’ve all been doing, and the time spent with your kids discovering more about Jesus.

This year our theme is “Show them Jesus”, and each term we have a theme and Big Ideas to explore. Last term we looked at who Jesus SAID he is through some of the “I Am” statements:

  • I am the Vine (Without Jesus, we cannot grow or flourish. With Jesus, we are blessed and called His friends)
  • I am the Good Shepherd (Jesus watches over us and protects us from harm)
  • I am the Gate/Door (there is only one way to God, through Jesus, and Jesus protects us)
  • I am the Resurrection and the Life (Jesus created life and he conquered death)
  • HE IS RISEN (Jesus conquered sin and death so that we could have a relationship with God again)

This term our theme will be “Jesus Makes All Things New." I’m excited about this one! We’ll look at some of the miracles Jesus did, the lives of Jesus’ closest friends, and what the Bible says heaven will be like.

  • April 22nd Week 1 & 2: "The Transfiguration" and "Jesus chooses his Disciples"
    • Big Ideas:
      • Jesus is the greatest man to have ever lived!
      • With Jesus the ordinary can be made extra ordinary!
  • May 6th Week 3 & 4: "Peter is Restored" and "Peter and the Lame Beggar."
    • Big Ideas:
      • Jesus’s love and forgiveness can transform weakness into strength!
      • We are made complete through faith in Jesus Christ!
  • May 20th Week 5 & 6: "Jesus Heals the Ten Lepers" and "Love Is (1 Cor. 13)".
    • Big Ideas:
      • We can be thankful and glorify God for each blessing he gives!
      • God has given us each gifts to help spread his love!
  • June 3rd Week 7 & 8: "Jesus Feeds the 5000" and "Do not Worry"
    • Big Ideas:
      • With Jesus who is all powerful, everything is possible!
      • God know and provides for our every need!
  • June 17th Week 9 & 10: "All things New - Heaven"
    • Big Idea:
      • A perfect existence awaits us with God in Heaven!

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have HOPE!

A special thank you to Russ, Alice, Kellie, and Abbie Thomas who have been a big part of our team here at Eltham! We Pray God’s continued blessings on you as you serve with our family at the Hurstbridge Campus.

Playgroups 2018 Update

Playgroups are one of the biggest family’s ministries that run out of the Eltham Campus. This year is no different, as all the four sessions offered during the week are full and thriving, with over 40+ families attending across the week. We are so grateful to God and our Playgroup team for providing a loving and safe environment for these families. Praise God for this outreach opportunity!

So, who’s in the team?

  • Our very own ‘Miss Maker’-Jan Wood (who organises and prepares all the craft for the week)
  • Monday: Diane Orrin and Caz Baker
  • Tuesday: Bec Hayman-Andersen and Luisa Davies
  • Wednesday: Sue Forster and Alison Gawler
  • Friday: Jo Craig, Kathy Armour, and Mary Morgan

Ministry needs:

Kids' Church

  • 1 Team Leader for 2 & 3 y.o., starting Term 3 (July 15th)
  • 1 Team Leader to teach with a team for grades 1 -3, starting Term 4 (Oct 7th)
  • 1 Team Leader to teach with a team for Kindy’s and Preps, starting Term 3
  • 1 team of 2 to teach grades 4-6, starting ASAP
  • 2 teams of 2 for our Sunday night program

Each age group has 3 teams, and the roster operates on a 2 week on, 4 week off basis. We’re asking for a commitment of the next cycle which ends after Term 2 2019.

An application form and Working With Children’s Checks are required for these roles, along with an hour of ‘Duty of Care’ training (consisting of a video and a phone call/chat with the leadership team).

Playgroups

We would love to have another helper for Diane Orrin and Caz Baker on a Monday morning 9-11:30am for the remainder of the year.

If you’ve been regularly attending The Vine Baptist for at least 6 months and would like to hear more about these opportunities please speak to Sky Prentice, Bek Hunt, Bella Shade, or Bethany Strugnell.

If you’re heading to Hurstbridge and would like to support Kids' Church there, please contact Ben Howes.

Behaviour Management plan for our Kids Church Program at VBC

The children are made aware of our Code of Conduct. We all agree to this:

  • If a child is not behaving in a way they've agreed to behave (e.g. being rude to a leader; being deliberately disruptive, etc.), then they are reminded of their agreement.
  • If the behaviour continues, a leader will come speak to the child outside and sit with them for the remainder of the Kids' Church program if required.

Evening Service Kids Church Program Update

We wanted to give you all an update on the current VBC Evening Service Kid’s Program.

As many of you know, last year we implemented the evening program, due to an increase in the number of families with kids that had joined the evening service. We were blessed with a full team of passionate leaders and the regular attendance of 10+ children. We’re very thankful for the way God allowed us to use this opportunity to further bless the families here at VBC.

This year we have noticed a decrease in the number of kids regularly attending the evening service, which now averages around 5-7 children. We believe this to be due to several factors, including various families moving away and the exciting start of our new campus in Hurstbridge. We have also noticed a decrease in the availability of leaders to support the evening kids' program, likely due to the same factors.

At this stage, we have a team committed to leading the program throughout the rest of this term; however, we do not currently have sufficient leaders to see the rest of the year out. We are very keen to continue to build relationships with the children who attend our evening services and to provide opportunities for them to continue to grow in their relationships with Jesus.

Due to the difficulties we’re facing, we’re praying about how to go forward with the program for Terms 3 & 4.

We wanted to communicate with you all to let you know that we’ve identified an upcoming difficulty, and we’re in the process of seeking out God’s will for the ministry going forward. We would be very keen to hear from you any ideas you might have about the program going forward. If any of you were keen to teach or join the team, or even if you would like to know more and would be interested in coming along one Sunday night, we’d be happy to hear from you.

Please continue to pray with us that God will make clear the direction He would like us to go with the evening program. Ultimately, this ministry is His, and He has gone before us, so we remain confident in that promise.

Thank you for your support, encouragement and prayers.

Blessings,
VBC Kids' Ministry Team
